Welcome to summer! In this episode, we catch up on a whirlwind few weeks since our mid-May update. We’re recapping recent travels and milestones, including David’s birthday trip back to Ohio, an incredible Lou Gehrig Day trip to Cincinnati, a beautiful time in Myrtle Beach for NC Eyes, and a memorable night in Charlotte seeing Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson. We also reflect on Father's Day and discuss how we are navigating the summer season—balancing work, family, and intentionally carving out moments of personal peace.
In our ALS community segment, we highlight the incredible momentum from ALS Awareness Month. We share our gratitude for Molly and Carson's backyard lemonade stand (shoutout to Dee!), look ahead to the ALS TDI Tri-State Trek, and provide updates on the Catfish Classic and Sarah’s Golf Tournament. We also pause to honor the memory of Sheriff Roy Woodlief and point listeners toward a fantastic connection resource: ALS.Community.
Then, we dive into a personal milestone of our own as we approach our one-year wedding anniversary. We open up about the beautiful, ongoing process of merging our lives, learning to stay deeply rooted in the present moment while still building a vision for our future.
Finally, our PALS of the Episode spotlight shines on Cory Mosley, host of the ALS Matters podcast. Cory's story hits incredibly close to home—he is an East Carolina University alum who carries the SOD1 gene, coming from a family where more than 39 members across three generations have faced ALS. Cory shares his reality of being diagnosed in his late 30s and how he chooses hope over fear, focusing entirely on making time for his wife and his daughter, Willa. We discuss the profound connection to "our Cory," whose early participation in clinical trials helped pave the way for Qalsody, the FDA-approved treatment Cory Mosley benefits from today. We also celebrate Cory’s recent trip to Philadelphia for Lou Gehrig Day, where his cousin Scotty Easter threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
